AI Horizon Journal – 5th Edition (October 2026)
The fifth edition of AI Horizon Journal is here. Since our July issue, the question on everyone’s agenda has shifted: fewer people ask whether AI will change their work, and more ask how to stay in control of it while it does. The AI Omnibus has moved several high-risk deadlines, but it has not paused AI compliance – and this issue looks at what that means in practice.
Intellectual property runs as a common thread through this edition. Three companies building AI for the IP profession arrive at the same conclusion from different directions: AI can automate a great deal of the work, but accountability remains human.
In this edition:
- Association Updates: Preparations for the AI Horizon Conference 2026 on 11 November at Lumen Hotel in Lisbon – programme, speakers, sponsors and partners – and AIEI’s new observer status at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
- Cover Story: Sergiy Barbashyn, President of AIEI, on whether the AI Act has really been postponed: what has actually changed for AI compliance after the AI Omnibus, with a practical roadmap for 2026–2027.
- Interview: Roman Završek, President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), on AI, digital transformation and the future of the legal profession – and why competence, confidentiality and human responsibility must come first.
- Regulation: Assoc. Prof. Dr Valentas Gružauskas of Vilnius University on why harmonised standards are an operating system for AI governance, not paperwork added after deployment.
- Industry Insights: Roba Hamam of AÏP Genius on AI-native intellectual property, Toni Nijm of Anaqua on automating the work, not the accountability, and Elena Galletti of Questel on AI, trust and the future of intellectual property.
- Best Practices: Ines-Kuniko Mogami of Augmented You on human-centred AI implementation design and why the people who will work with AI deserve a voice before the investment is made.
The issue also introduces the AI Regulation Monitor for AIEI members and the free EU AI Act Readiness Assessment.
