AIEI Legal Committee Meeting Report: Key Focus Areas and Next Steps
The Legal Committee of the AI Ethics and Integrity International Association (AIEI) has officially commenced its work with a meeting on 28 January 2026, at 1:00 pm CET, bringing together leading legal practitioners.
Opening and Strategic Context
The meeting opened with remarks from AIEI leadership, outlining the role of the Legal Committee in strengthening the association’s foundations and building trust through clear, actionable legal and governance frameworks. The emphasis was placed on practical outcomes and tools that can be effectively used by businesses, legal teams and professionals across disciplines.
Committee members present included:
Full members: Taras Lytovchenko, Edvinas Meskys, Oleksii Shamov, Vitor Neves, Janis Wong, Roman Zavrsek, Roba Hamam, Andriy Barbashyn, Alexandr Chernykh, Nélitié Zingoua Kouadio, Hanna Bondarenko, Amisha Mittal
Associated participants: Hysmir Idrizi, Melike Aslan, Alexandru-Mihai Alexandrescu, Nazik Ecem Coşkun, Gökçenur Bilgin, Kateryna Kernoz, Agwu Naomi Nneoma.
Priorities for the initial phase were then outlined, focusing on:
- Review and Update of AIEI Declarative Principles 2.0
The first priority identified was the review of the Declarative Principles, which serve as the foundation of AIEI’s work. The goal is to ensure they remain credible, up to date, and practically applicable.
The committee will work on reviewing existing principles, identifying gaps or unclear areas, refining the language and adding concise explanations to ensure accessibility beyond a purely legal audience. The development of supporting analytical materials illustrating how principles apply in different business contexts is also planned.
- AI Governance Starter Kit and Legislative Tracking
The Committee will also develop an AI Governance Starter Kit, comprising practical policy and procedure templates for companies and legal teams. These materials are intended as adaptable frameworks rather than one-size-fits-all solutions.
Another key focus area is the tracking of AI-related legislation. AIEI plans to develop a global portal where legal professionals and experts can share updates on regulatory developments in their respective jurisdictions, enabling continuous monitoring of global trends.
- Further Activities and Next Steps
The Legal Committee will also contribute to webinars, seminars and professional events aimed at increasing AIEI’s global visibility and disseminating practical knowledge on AI governance.
To support effective collaboration, a shared communication channel will be established for committee members. Participants will be invited to join topic-specific working groups, each with designated leads. Contributions will be transparently attributed to the members directly involved in the work.
